Gender bias lives in every corner of your people management -whether you admit it or not.
Most leaders tell me: “We don’t discriminate.” And I believe them.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth ⤵️
Gender bias doesn’t show up in your policy.
It shows up in your perceptions.
And that’s what lands businesses in tribunal.
I call this "The Gender Perception Gap" - the difference between whats written in policy vs whats happening in practice.
⚠️ In recruitment: You call him “ambitious.” You call her “aggressive.”
⚠️ In promotions: You reward his “potential.” You reward her only when she’s proved it.
⚠️ In performance reviews: You ask him about his commitment to his job because he has childcare responsibilities. But you're quick to give her time off.
None of this is written in your handbook.
None of it is deliberate.
But all of it is bias.
And bias is the first step towards sex discrimination. And it effects men, too!
Here’s the inspiring part-
Bias isn’t permanent.
But you do have to admit it exists before you can fix it.
That’s why I’ve built tools for leaders who want to stop hiding behind policies and start measuring what matters - the moments where bias lives unnoticed.
