Every local business owner has heard the phrase "AI readiness" by now. Fewer know what it's meant to actually mean for them.
It's not about chatbots or the latest tool. It's about something much less exciting: whether your basic systems — bookings, invoicing, customer records — already talk to each other, or whether you're the one manually copying information between them every day.
That second bit matters more than people think. Automation and AI both need clean, connected data to work with. A business running on three disconnected spreadsheets and a paper diary isn't behind because it lacks AI — it's behind because nothing's joined up yet. Fix that first, and the AI conversation gets a lot simpler (and often a lot smaller than expected).
If you want a quick, no-cost way to see where your own business actually stands, I built a short AI Readiness Scorecard, which is available in my website.
Happy to compare notes with anyone in the group who's wrestling with the same question.
